David and his wife Meryl attended the 30th Ivor Novello Awards at Grosvenor House in London on 13th March 1985. The Ivor Novello awards are awards for songwriting and composing. They have been presented annually in London by the Ivors Academy, formerly called the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, since 1956.
Other celebrities that were there, Elton John, Kiki Dee, Bob Geldof, The Moody Blues, (to name a few) his friend George Michael won Songwriter of the Year, and with Andrew Ridgeley their song Careless Whisper won Most Performed Work.
